PhD Jana Pieriegud, SGH professor
 – the report regarding the potential of freight transport

Thanks to the kindness of PhD Jana Pieriegud, SGH professor, we are presenting the report entitled ‘Analysis of the potential of the development of rail container market in Poland’ prepared for the needs of the European Commission. Reliable analysis concerns not only Poland-EU-Asia rail connections (mainly China), but also presents a rail transit network which connects Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

We can find out, that transit traffic accounts for about 15% of the total turnover of Polish seaports, whereby cargo transit sea -> land predominates in its scope to the Czech Republic (1.2 million tonnes) and Slovakia (0.6%) million tons). On 5th of December 2017, representatives of the ministries who are responsible for transport in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia signed a memorandum regarding the establishment of the Amber Rail Freight Corridor (RFC 11) railway management board, whose main tasks will be:

1. Ensuring the transparency and communication of international rail transport operations.

2. Introduction to innovative value-added products and increased reliability solutions in order to meet the clients' needs.

3. Supporting cooperation and coordination within the RFC railway corridors.

In addition, METRANS with the headquarters in Prague (the Czech Republic) serves container trains to and from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland as well as Germany, Benelux, Austria and Slovenia. Three Polish intermodal terminals - Dąbrowa Górnicza, Gądki near Poznań and Pruszków are managed by METRANS (Polonia). We invite you to familiarize yourself with an extremely interesting report, which brings many important aspects of international relations in the aspect of rail transport!
